ABOUT US

Here’s a little bit about us:

She-Tea is “the busy woman’s tea company”, and Daylesford’s very own boutique tea company. We set out four years ago to create a range of teas that are totally different to anything else on the market, and I am pleased to say we have succeeded!

OUR VISION & OUR MISSION
We all know how important it is to have a clear vision if you want a successful business. Well, this month we’ve spent a lot of time tweaking ours to make absolutely sure we are saying exactly what we stand for, and exactly what we care about.
So when we sat down together and really thought about it, it comes down to the fact that we want She-Tea to be the constant companion of every busy women in Australia, each and every day. We want our tea to be a constant source of comfort, amusement, support and inspiration to every busy woman, no matter who they are.
We want canisters of Booze Hound stashed in medical cabinets up and down the East Coast, we want The Warrior to be kept right next to the kettle all Winter for a daily brew, we want our Abundance canisters to take front and centre position on every woman’s office desk up the West Coast, with back up Happy Hippies in every tea and lunch room throughout the land.
We want She-Tea travel foil packs to be poking out of every piece of luggage at Melbourne airport, and we want a Daylesford Breakfast Tea pyramid bags taken to every hotel room in every state, for the rest of time, as we don’t want anyone to have to suffer through the hotel tea experience again.
We want all of this and more. We want everyone who drinks a cup of She-Tea to know that their tea comes from organic, bio-diverse growers, that the pickers and producers are treated and paid fairly and that every decision that is made within the She-Tea company is made ethically, with respect for the earth, for tradition, and for the global population.
So with these humble goals clearly set, we have put together a statement that we think sums us up:
“Nurturing, supporting and inspiring busy women every single day,
while committing to good, clean and fair tea principles, and
                                                    conscious tea consumption.”

I’ll introduce myself first as I do all of the artwork for our She-Tea canisters, and also have access to the editing facilities for our website. Call it first dibs!

I’m Jodie Fergusson-Batte. I live in Daylesford (Central Victoria), I’m an artist, mother, wife and now small (soon to be epic) business owner. Each and every She-Tea canister displays one of my original oil paintings, that hopefully bring that little something extra special to each cup of tea.

I met fellow She-Tea Director, Vanessa Carslake, while we were working in a medical device sales team in 2006. We were both nurses in our former lives and so the change to big salaries, car allowances and all-expenses paid conferences (including mini bars) was a welcome one. It’s fair to say we were both good at our jobs, and both made the most of the fruits of our labour, but when it came down to it, we wanted something more.

Tired of dreaming of working in a role we were naturally passionate about, we agreed to go away separately and write a list of all of the things that made us happy, that put that little sparkle in our eye. We met up again to compare lists and found that we had a few common themes between us; art, tea, family, girlfriends and humour were among them. At this point we decided to build a business, somehow, around these things…She-Tea was born!

As we had not yet bred, we worked, drank, smoked and partied most weekends, and then spent most Mondays repenting and jumping back on the mineral water and vitamins, only to repeat the process again. Needless to say, with blends named B*tch is Back, Booze Hound and Virgin, our first range of teas were a clear reflection of this.

Of course, after having our first children in 2009 / 2010, we mellowed somewhat and brought out the Love, Motherhood and Zen, followed closely by our Top Bloke tea and a couple of berry infusions for kids…

After all of this we realised that not every woman has the time to sit down and make a pot of tea from scratch, so in the interests of convenience, and sanity, we introduced our very popular new range of organic pyramid tea bags. Our pyramid bags are made from biodegradable materials and include all of the favourite everyday blends. We’ve even put them in a super special range of canisters inspired by the beautiful town of Daylesford, we I live. Our new Daylesford range includes:

- Daylesford Breakfast Tea (pyramid bags and loose leaf options)

- Daylesford Lazy Lunch – green & jasmine

- Daylesford Grey Afternoon – earl grey

- Daylesford Last Drinks – chamomile & mint

- The Happy Hippie – vanilla spicy chai

- Abundance – lemongrass & ginger

This year we’ve been all about fine-tuning our tea range, launching the Daylesford teas, and me holding the fort while Ness had baby number two (the delicious little Holly Vanessa). We’ve had exciting customised roles, including the creation of a signature tea blend for Salus Spa at Lake House, Daylesford, and we have some wonderful new stockists. We’ve even added wholesale cafe and restaurant service blends to our range by popular demand.

In 2013 we’re ready to hit the ground running again, with a fully stocked warehouse and our brand new SLOW TEA COMPANY for our service range for cafes, restaurants, spas and hotels. It’s an exciting time, we absolutely love what we do, and we can’t wait to share even more great teas with you!

Thanks for dropping by and please contact us if you want to chat!
